| Great escape on after all - in last secs |
Unbelievable scenes at the very end of the season in Division 5:16. Facing a second straight relegation, Great Horned Owls started the last day 6th and dead level with the team in 7th, The Modern Lepers, and faced each other in our last match with both of us needing to win AND manage a four goal swing to catch the team in 5th and stay up. We'd only won once since we beat the Lepers on the first day of the season, 3 months ago.
That team in 5th, S.L. Balelas, were playing Gehenna Hot Pants, who needed to win to have a chance of finishing 2nd. Pants scored twice in first half with their only two shots of the game, but missed out on playoff by 1 goal. Meanwhile it was 0-0 in our game but the Lepers had a player sent off with 15 minutes to go. It was still 0-0 at 90 minutes, and we were both going down.
Then in the 91st minute a 19 year old rookie, Piper Hardin, scored her first ever goal for us - but we were still both going down.
Then we got a free kick in the 94th. And Almunda Delagarza scored it. And that meant we've stayed up on goals scored. I think Camilla Paulsson, who got sent off, gets free drinks for life at our club bar!! Can't believe it.
